You have finally found someone with whom you can be yourself, share your dreams and they understand you. You spend endless hours talking and dreaming of a life together. You can’t believe this is happening and wish for nothing more than this to last forever.
After you have gotten married and are living happily. You started to notice that things were changing. You didn’t always say anything. Instead you were thinking, we are both very goal driven in our careers and our schedules are just busy, we will get back on track. This is just temporary.
You start to notice that you are missing each other. Your attempts to communicate your feelings and needs seem to lead to more arguments than connection. You find your frustration growing as you find that you are frequently being misunderstood.
You keep finding yourselves in a dizzying cycle that easily and quickly spins out of control. You keep having the same argument and you can’t seem to find a resolution. You find yourself fighting about finances, household chores, the kids, schedules, or your in-laws, but all you really desire is to feel connected, feel heard, or seen by your partner.
You’re still in love with your partner, but there is the gnawing fear that you might not be able to overcome your differences. You’re sensing that the connection between you and your partner has shifted and you are unsure how to get it back. You question if it is easier to just be alone and if it is even worth it?
Whether your relationship is new or you have been together for many years, relationships experience trials. Having another party available to assist you in working through these trials can aid in rebuilding trust, improving communication, creating insight into the current issue(s), and restoring and strengthening your connection.
Trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a well-known humanistic approach to psychotherapy formulated in the 1980’s and developed in tandem with the science of adult attachment. EFT is a profound developmental theory of personality and intimate relationships. The EFT model prioritizes emotion and emotional regulation as the key organizing agents in individual experience and key relationship interactions. Together we work to identify the negative cycle of interaction in your relationship. We process what happens when this cycle takes over your relationship, the emotions and attachment messages that tend to arise in each partner. We learn and replace the negative cycle in your relationship. Thereby, helping you to learn to create emotional safety in your relationship.
