Cancellation Policy

Since your appointment time is reserved specifically for you, a 24-hour notice is required to cancel or reschedule your appointment.  Failure to attend your scheduled appointment or if less than 24 hours notice is provided a no show/late cancellation fee of $85 will be charged, and is due at the time of the missed session.  This is non-negotiable and you will be required to have an active credit card on file for any late cancellations.

Q: What should I expect during my first visit?

A: Your first appointment will consist of information gathering to further understand each clients past, needs, strengths, challenges, interests, and desired goals for treatment.  Ultimately, this time will be used to begin establishing a connection that will aid in building a strong relationship, as this is the cornerstone for predicting a successful treatment process.

This is also another opportunity to decide if this will be a good fit to assist you in reaching your treatment goals and whether or not you are comfortable with your provider.  Take this opportunity to ask any questions that you may have with regard to the treatment approach.

Q: How long will I be in therapy?

A: Truthfully, treatment processes vary by client.  The goal is not to adopt you as a therapy client forever, but instead to assist you in reaching your goals.  Therapy is a commitment to yourself that requires time and effort, and the decision to engage in the process is yours.  

Regular weekly participation in the therapeutic process will increase the likelihood of better and quicker results.  We will work as a team to assess the progress you are making in achieving your goals and explore any barriers that may arise.  Once consistent improvement is observed, discussion to begin the discharge process occurs and sessions move to bi-weekly, then monthly.  Then you earn your wings to soar as you were always destined to do!!

Q: Do you take my insurance?

A: The following insurances are accepted: Carefirst (HMO & PPO plans) and Cigna.  You can still be seen if we are not in-network with your insurance, however you will be responsible for paying the full rate for services.  We will provide you with a “Superbill,” that you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement.  If your insurer provides out-of-network mental health coverage, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement between 40-80% of the full rate fee.  The best way to be sure of your insurance benefits would be to contact them directly. 

Questions to ask your insurance provider:

  1. Are mental health benefits covered in my plan?
  2. Do I have a deductible?
  3. What is my co-pay/co-insurance amount?
  4. Is an authorization required for me to receive services?
  5. Is there a limit to the number of sessions I can participate in?

Q: How long are my appointments?

A: Initial Evaluation/Diagnostic: 55 minutes

     Individual Session: 50 – 55 minutes

     Couples Session: 60 minutes

     Phone Consultation (free): 15 – 20 minutes

Q: Will you give me advice?

A: The short answer is “No”.  Contrary to the belief of many, therapy is not about giving advice.  Instead, it is a safe place that allows you to work toward changing your life through the exploration of behavior patterns, thought processes, and feelings.  We will work as a team to examine these inner conflicts that may be impeding your ability to enjoy life.

Q: Do you provide virtual services?

A: Yes, virtual therapy services are available to residents of Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.  Virtual coaching services are available nationwide.

Q: What to do in the case of crisis?

A: In the case of a crisis (threat to harm self or another individual, abuse or neglect), call 911 or go to your nearest Hospital/Emergency Room.
